Merus Power and Alpiq shortlisted for Energy Storage Awards 2025

We are proud and excited to share that Merus Power, together with Alpiq, has been shortlisted for the Grid-scale Standalone Energy Storage Project of the Year at the Energy Storage Awards 2025.

Our 30 MW / 36 MWh grid-forming (GFM) battery energy storage system (BESS) in Valkeakoski, Finland, has been recognized as one of Europe’s leading projects driving the clean energy transition. This system is the first of its kind in the Nordics, showcasing how grid-forming technology can actively support and stabilize the power system, rather than simply following it.

The Energy Storage Awards celebrate innovation and excellence in the global energy storage industry. The winners will be announced on 20 November 2025 at the Park Plaza London Riverbank, where the most forward-thinking projects and companies in the sector will be celebrated.

Being shortlisted is a huge recognition for everyone involved in this pioneering project. It reflects the commitment and teamwork of both Merus Power and Alpiq in building a cleaner, more reliable and more flexible power system.
