Office buildings

Customer challenges
in office buildings

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) are often used in commercial buildings, where different process systems require a constant electric current at different speeds. VFDs have many benefits like motor efficiency, but they are also prone to cause power quality issues like harmonic or voltage distortion.

Poor power quality can result in equipment malfunctions, a shortened lifetime of devices, unnecessary downtime, and even data corruption or losses. Operational reliability and availability cannot be guaranteed in the presence of harmonic distortions produced by non-linear loads. To protect sensitive control systems such as fire protection and computers in office buildings, harmonic mitigation is a necessity. It is extremely important to ensure that all equipment and devices work as they are supposed to, to protect people from dangerous malfunctions and even life-threatening situations.

Processes fed by Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) such as HVAC systems, elevators, escalators, computers, lighting, printers, TV screens, fire protection system, CCTV, etc.
