Merus Power to deliver a utility scale energy storage system for an innovative microgrid project in Finland
Merus Power has signed a contract with Lempäälän Energia Ltd. to deliver a turnkey energy storage system to an intelligent and self-sufficient energy business district built in the town of Lempäälä, south of Finland. Project is called LEMENE where innovative and futuristic microgrid is being built and business district will have industrial as well as commercial users.
Gird of this intelligent district mimics the functionalities of a smart grid and comprises of distributed energy generation resources including renewable energy generation. Merus ESS is a key enabler of smart grid functionalities in this project and will ensure that the district can export or import energy to or from the grid, have better reliability, improved energy efficiency and excellent quality of the power for its industrial as well as commercial users.

The contract covers Merus ESS 1.6MW energy storage system representing state-of-the-art power electronics and control system technology. Turnkey equipment will be designed and manufactured in Merus Power factory located in Nokia, Finland. It mainly comprises of Lithium-ion batteries and battery management system, power conversions system (PCS) and main Merus MCC controller. A special feature of the Merus Power energy storage system is the power quality improvement functionality, which can be utilized continuously regardless of energy storing or discharging features.
