Merus Power is supplying Siemens Mobility Denmark with a power quality solution for a battery-powered train charging station

Merus Power is supplying Merus® STATCOM compensator to Siemens Mobility Denmark. Siemens Mobility is one of the world’s leading suppliers of rail rolling stock, infrastructure, services, and digital solutions. The compensator will be used to manage power quality at battery-powered train charging station. The delivery strengthens Merus Power’s position as a supplier of power quality solutions for demanding rail transport and the electrification of transport, and supports the company’s strategy.

The charging infrastructure for battery-powered trains represents a new and exciting application for Merus Power in the field of power quality. The electrification of transportation can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions from transportation, but high-power charging places new demands on the power grid. The Merus® STATCOM compensator helps keep the grid stable and power quality consistent even when charging places a rapid and heavy load on the grid.

The agreement supports Merus Power’s strategy to grow as a supplier of power system solutions required by the energy transition and electrification. Power quality solutions are a strategically important business area for the company, strengthening Merus’s technological position in demanding industrial, infrastructure, and grid environments, and bringing stability to the company’s business alongside the growth of energy storage.

“The electrification of rail transport is advancing in Europe, and at the same time, the importance of power quality is growing. A battery-powered train charging station is a good example of a new application where the stability and reliability of the power system are critical. This delivery strengthens our position as a supplier of demanding power quality solutions and supports our strategy to build growth on the foundation of energy storage, power quality, and services,” commented Kari Tuomala, CEO of Merus Power Oyj.

Merus Power’s solutions support the electrification of transportation, industry, and energy production by improving grid stability, energy efficiency, and power quality. The company delivers power quality solutions for projects of various sizes around the world.
