Powering Finland’s Future – Fingrid and Merus Power exploring the Energy System of Tomorrow

Merus Power had the pleasure of welcoming Fingrid’s CEO Asta Sihvonen-Punkka and Senior Vice President Jussi Jyrinsalo, to Lempäälä, where they visited one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Finland. The energy storage facility (BESS), owned by Taaleri Energia’s SolarWind III fund and delivered by Merus Power, highlights the importance of flexibility and innovation in the Finnish power system.

The BESS site was presented by the Technical Asset Manager of Taaleri Energia, Tuomas Kupila. The visit was hosted by Merus Power’s CEO Kari Tuomala and Operation and Maintenance Manager Jani Salmi.

Following the site tour, the Fingrid delegation continued their visit at Merus Power’s factory. They were welcomed by Jarkko Latonen, Director of Factory Operations and Quality, who guided them through the production facilities.

The day also provided an excellent opportunity for open dialogue on the future of Finland’s electricity system. In these discussions, Kari Tuomala was joined by Jonna Kannosto, Director of Communications and Investor Relations, and Markus Ovaskainen, Director of Sales and Marketing at Merus Power. Together with Fingrid, they explored future market scenarios and the pivotal role of battery storage in enabling a secure and sustainable energy system.

We deeply value Fingrid’s open and forward-thinking approach to communication, market transparency, and customer collaboration. This visit reflects the strong and constructive partnership between Merus Power and Fingrid, founded on shared goals and mutual trust.

Fingrid’s commitment to transparent and proactive communication, particularly in sharing its scenarios, forecasts, and upcoming market developments, plays a crucial role in strengthening Finland’s investment landscape for electricity consumption and production. Fingrid’s forward-looking communication about future developments and changes, especially during the fast-paced green transition, supports long-term planning and creates the certainty needed for implementation of new development projects, including battery storage, renewable energy, and grid flexibility solutions.
